Several hundred citizens sent letters to the County Council last week about the county's once-in-a-decade Comprehensive Rezoning exercise. Yes, the very name of it makes one nod off to sleep. But it will shape the future of AACo. Citizens are paying attention, and the Council responded. This is the way democracy is supposed to work.

We realize that there are truly competing interests here -- the rights of the land owner versus the rights of the neighbors and community -- and appreciate the Council's efforts to navigate between them.
We didn't get everything we wanted. BUT, the Council had the option of powering through with its shortened notice period, but listened, and responded. It is clear that the Council is taking this responsibility seriously and is actively engaged with their constituents, and that the citizen network WORKED, and that's a lot to celebrate!
