As the Maryland General Assembly begins its final days, it is also preparing its final buget cuts. The sharp scissors, long knives, and chainsaws are out.
Unless we speak up, they are discussing cutting almost $200,000,000 from the MD DNR budget that would:
unfund shoreline restoration and storm water management projects in the Chesapeake Bay watershed
unfund forest preservation efforts which preserve the trees that are the lungs of our rivers and streams
unfund Program Open Space which would cripple efforts to preserve the natural environemtn, heal our waters, and create more resilient communities
The Growth Action Network urges you to find your state senator and representative at https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Members/District
Tell them: The Chesapeake Bay is improving largely because of the DNR programs that fund stream restoration, forest conservation, Program Open Space, and other environmental efforts. Unfunding them would be devasting to the ecosystem and set us back for years or longer. Restore the proposed cuts to DNR now.
